I get the chance to participate in a training on math interventions. We started today by looking at the value of students learning the building blocks to math in small groups and one-to-one interactions. Students can have lots of misconceptions that a teacher would never know about until the teacher and student get to sit down and work together.
Students really need to build their number sense. Today we worked on place and value of numbers with a game. The students rolled a die and could move to the touching square that had that digit in it. The value of the digit became their score. The goal was to get to ten grand first without going over. I love building number sense with something fun!
